How to make chocolate cake

Chocolate cake is a very simple  but delicious and decadent cake you will ever make. It is soft and moist and sure to please any chocolate lover. I made this chocolate for my daughter's (teenager) birthday and she was very impressed because it was so good. 

Directions

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees F/180 degrees C
  • Grease pan and line the bottom with parchment paper
  • Sift flour and dutch cocoa powder in a bowl. Add baking powder, salt, baking soda, brown sugar, white sugar and mix to combine completely.
  • In another bowl, add warm/hot water, vegetable oil, milk, eggs, vanilla extract and whisk to combine.
  • Add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients and mix with a spatula until combine. The hatter should be loose.
  • Pour equal portion into each pan (two 8 inch) and bake for 30 - 35 minutes or until the toothpick comes out clean.
  • Cool in pan for about 10 minutes, then remove from pans and let cool on the wire rack until completely cool.


Chocolate frosting

  • Melt chocolate chip in the microwave for 30 - 40 seconds, stir vigorously until the chips completely melt. Microwave for 10 more seconds as needed if chips are not completely dissolved. Set aside to cool.
  • Sift powdered sugar.
  • In another bowl beat room temperature butter for a few seconds until light and fluffy. Add the powdered sugar gradually. 
  • Add vanilla extract and milk, continue to beat.
  • Add the melted chocolate and beat for about 5 minutes. Then frost and decorate cake as desired.


Ingredients

Cake

  • 2 cups all purpose flour
  • 1/2 dutch cocoa powder
  • 1 cup milk/buttermilk/evaporated milk
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil/melted butter
  • 2 large eggs (room temperature)
  • 1 cup water (warm/hot) or hot coffee
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1 cup white sugar
  • 1  1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract

Chocolate frosting

  • 1/2 cup chocolate chips/chopped chocolate
  • 1 cup butter at room temperature
  • 4 cups powdered sugar
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 - 3 tbsp milk


Pan size (2) 8 inch pans
