Dankwa Recipe

Dankwa

Dankwa is popular among Hausa speaking communities and where the Hausa people have migrated to. It has so many names and some are variants of Dodonkwa such as Donkwa, Dankuwa, Dankwa, Tanfiri, Uloka. Other non Nigerians know it as Daakoa, Adaakwa and Zowey. Whatever it is called, Dankwa, Dankuwa or Tanfiri is a very delicious, sweet and savory snack. It is known as energy ball that is equally filling. It also nutritious and contains lots of fiber. I will show you how to make it from scratch in the comfort of your own home. It is quick and very easy to make.

Directions

  • Toast the raw groundnut/peanut in a pan over medium heat frequently stirring for 10 minutes. This prevent the peanut from burning. When done, spread the peanut on a tray to cool down.
  • Toast raw corn in a pan over medium heat for 10 minutes, frequently stirring. When done spread on a tray and allow to cool down. 
  • While the corn is cooling down, peel the toasted peanut.
  • Blend or grind the toasted corn, dry pepper, sugar, cloves, salt and peanut together. It is advisable to use a heavy duty blender/grinder or a commercial grinder. Blend until everything is properly combined and the peanut has produced more oil to bind everything together. 
  • Wash your hands properly.
  •  Scoop a desired amount and roll between your palms to form little balls.


 Ingredients  

2 cups raw corn  

1 1/2 cups roasted groundnut/peanut  

1 tbsp ground dry pepper  

1/2 tsp salt  

5 tbsp sugar  

10 -12 cloves
