danwake | Beans dumplings

How to make Danwake | Beans dumplings

Danwake is a northern Nigeria dish that is made with a mixture of flour and other ingredients. It is also known as beans dumplings. It is a very delicious filling meal that is nutritious.

Directions

  • Soak a piece of potash in 1 cup of water, set aside to dissolve.
  • Heat some water in a large pot and bring it to a boil.
  • Meanwhile in a bowl, add beans flour, cassava flour, moringa powder (or kuka), and salt and mix to combine. Pour is the potash water and mix. Add the remaining 2 cups of water and mix to combine. Whisk for about 5 minutes to fluff the batter.
  • With a scope , spoon or with your hand, drop the batter bit by bit into the pot of hot boiling water.  You can make it big or small. Cook it uncovered until done.The length of cooking time is dependent on the size of the danwake. For a bigger size, cook for about 30 minutes and for a small size cook for about 15 - 20 minutes 
  • Once done, transfer the cooked danwake into a big bowl of water and rinse. Danwake is always slimy or slippery once done. So to get rid of it, rinse the danwake multiple times. 
  • Serve with any vegetables of choice such as lettuce, cabbage, tomatoes, onions, boiled eggs, onion infused oil, ground dried pepper, seasoning cube and salt. Enjoy!

2 cups beans flour

2 cups cassava flour

2 tbsp moringa powder or kuka

1 tsp salt

Potash

3 cups water
