How to Cut Plantain

How to Cut Plantain

Cutting plantain can be challenging if one does not know to do it but it is actually very easy. I will be showing you 6 easy ways you can cut plantain, depending on the meal that you want to create.

Directions

  • Wash the ripe plantains. A dirty plantain can transfer dirt to the fruit.
  • Cut off both ends of the plantain and cut a long slit from top to bottom of plantain. Peel off the skin. It would come off easily.
  • This style of cutting is the diagonal/bias cutting. Cut the plantain diagonally from the inner arch of the plantain. Cut it and thinly or thickly as you want.
  • The next style is also diagonal but this time you have to cut it longer.
  • Another style is the circular or disc style. Cut the plantain into little discs. This is the easiest way to cut plantain.
  • Similar to the circular style is the cube style. Cut the plantain into thick discs, then cut each disc (from the center where the seeds are) into four equal parts forming four cubes.
  • The next style is popular among the Caribbeans. Cut the plantain into three parts then cut each horizontally, the way you would fillet a fish. Each part should have at least four slices
  • The 5th and the 6th styles are very close. Cut the plantain into three equal part. From the center (where the seeds are) cut the plantain into four equal parts. For the last style, cut one of those parts diagonally. Plantain is ready for frying.
