Quick turkey recipe

Quick & easy way to cook a delicious turkey

During Thanksgiving and Christmas celebrations, a lot of people cook so many dishes which are always time consuming. So it becomes very important to save time and energy when cooking certain dishes. Turkey for example always takes a lot of time to cook. Sometimes before it is ready, you would have made many other side dishes and then have to wait for the turkey to be done. So cutting down the cook time for the turkey gives you more time for other things and dinner would be ready in no time which gives you more time to hang with the family. No matter the size of your turkey, cooking it this way will definitely save time compared to cooking the same size whole.

Directions

  • Sharpen your knife.
  • Thaw the turkey for a day. When thawed, remove the turkey from the wrap and place it on a cutting board. Remove the neck from the cavity and the bag of giblets. Set them aside (you can use them to cook another meal or make a stock with the neck and butt). Pat the turkey dry with a paper towel.
  • Cut off the butt and add it to the neck and giblets. Turn the turkey upside down and cut down the spine (backbone) until it separates. Cut through the breast bone and the breast to have two equal halves. Cut each half into two by separating the breast from the thigh. You can wash the turkey at this point if you wish but remember to disinfect the sink afterwards.
  • Place the pieces in a big bowl, zest the lemon over the turkey, squeeze in the juice of the lemon. Pour the vegetable oil over the turkey, add salt, onion powder, curry powder, garlic powder, rosemary, black pepper, sage, ground ginger, crush in the seasoning cubes, and add in the chopped habanero peppers. Rub and evenly coat each piece of turkey with the marinade. Cover and let it marinate for at least 3 hours. This will give it enough time to absorb all the spices. During this time, you can rotate the placement of each piece so that they can all have the opportunity to sit in the marinade.
  • After 3 hours, lay them on a lined pan, cover with aluminum foil and bake for 1 hour.
  • After 1 hour, baste the turkey with the marinade and continue baking for another 30 minutes. After 30 minutes, you can flip them to the other side so that the other side can develop some color and prevent the skin from drying up. Bake for 15 - 20 minutes, then flip them back and continue to bake for the remaining 10-15 minutes. Turn off the heat and leave the turkey in the oven for about 30 minutes. This will brown the turkey and give it time to rest. Bring it out  and let it rest for about 10 - 15 minutes before carving the turkey.
  • To carve the turkey, start by thoroughly washing your hands or wear gloves, then begin with the parts that have points. Separate them from the joints. Peel off the bones from the bottom of the breast then cut the breast diagonally into your desired size. Once done, place them on your plate or pan. You can garnish with fruits or fresh herbs. Enjoy the holidays with your friends and family.
