Suya

Suya

Suya is an irresistible popular Nigerian street food that is so desired and enjoyed by many. Suya is made with beef and coated with suya spice mix that has groundnut (peanut as its base). The combination of Kulikuli powder and some Northern spices gives the spice mix a unique flavor that everyone enjoys. Though suya is mostly made and sold by Hausa men, I will show you how to make a very delicious suya in the comfort of your home that any suya seller would approve.

Directions

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees F or 180 degrees C
  • Soak wooden skewers in water for at least one hour. This is  going to prevent the skewers from burning.
  • Cut meat thinly and flat. Thread the meat on the skewers.
  • Coat the meat with suya spice (yaji).
  • Bake in the oven for 15 minutes on one side, sprinkle some groundnut oil (peanut oil), flip to the other side and cook for another 15 minutes.
  • Garnish with slice onions, tomatoes, cucumbers, cabbage and  some suya spice.

Ingredients:

Beef

Groundnut oil

Suya spice

Salt
